Just as the excitement from its last designer collaboration begins to die down, Target hits us with the news of what’s next. The announcement was made at a lavish party at New York’s Four Seasons and everyone it’s going to e a very Lilly Pulitzer Spring.
Lilly Pulitzer, is known for sunny, vibrant colorful dresses that defined the preppy style of the 50’s and 60’s. It is an interesting choice for a collaboration. The brand’s collection with Target will include 250 pieces of apparel, accessories, beauty and home decor and will range from $2 to $150. Also, for the first time, this collaboration will include plus sizes, which was one of the major complaints of Target’s most recent Altuzarra outing.
Founded in 1959, Lilly (McKim) Pulitzer a stylish Palm Beach hostess and socialite whose husband Peter Pulitzer owned several citrus groves the brand has an ingenious origin. Lilly would turn her husband’s fresh oranges into juice, which she sold at a juice stand. Lilly never wanted to look anything but fashionable, so she created kicky printed shift dresses to wear while working at the stand because the patterns camouflaged the juice spills beautifully. Catching the eye of more than one passerby including Jackie Kennedy, Lilly started selling her dresses at the juice stand and American resort wear it was born. Since then Lilly Pulitzer has evolved into a brand that stands for boldness, individuality and optimism-every day’s a beach day when your’re wearing Lilly.
The line will be available beginning on April 19, 2015, exclusively in all Target stores in the U.S. and Canada and on www.target.com
