Disclosure: I was invited as media to the movie screening and cast interview. All opinions expressed here are my own.
I was honored to be contacted by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment about interviewing Sophia Lillis for the release of “Nancy Drew And The Hidden Staircase” on digital and Blu-ray Combo Pack. I loved the books as young adult and I was excited to get her insight on what it was like to play such an iconic figure.
During the call, Sophia was accompanied by her mother, and you could tell that after playing in a horror film, she was excited to take on the role of Nancy Drew. I asked her a couple of questions, and could tell that she really enjoyed getting into the role.
What were some of the challenges in taking this role?
Sophia Lillis: This was the first time that I was the main character, so she I had to be there everyday. I also had to juggle school work. It was also a different genre to work in, having worked in a horror film, it was different than I was use to.
Are you looking forward to a sequel?
Sophia Lillis: I enjoyed working on family friendly films that kids can now enjoy. It was exciting to open up the story to a new generation of film goers. There is a ton of content still out there so another movie could be in store.
The Nancy Drew that we may remember has been changed so that the newer generation can relate to her more. She uses more technology, she rides a skate board and is independent. In the books, she actually spent nights out without telling her parents, which I never could understand, but in the movie she does tell her dad.
I always loved the books in that they were creative and gave you ideas on how to figure out mysteries and things that did not seem right. Seeing it again, made me realize that I loved that time in my life, and I want to go back and read them again and introduce them to my family and friends.
It was wonderful to have the opportunity to speak with Sophia Lillis.
You’ll enjoy watching her in Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase now release on digital (SRP:$19.99) and on Blu-ray Combo Pack (SRP:$28.98) & DVD (SRP:$19.98) from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
