Yankee Candle Pop Up Shop
A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend a preview event for the new Yankee Candle first ever experiential pop up shop, Candlepower. Inspired by the power of scent, CandlePower is located at 503 Broadway in the SoHo neighborhood. Open for a limited time, the 5340 square foot store features ten immersive exhibits to ignite the senses through scent, sight, sound and touch. The interactive and multi-sensory experience demonstrates how candles have the power to transport and transform by allowing shoppers to celebrate and experience the emotional power of scented candles. This is the perfect place for you to find all the gifts you need and change your home décor to make it more holiday festive.
Scent has the power to take you places, whether it’s a special aroma of home, the scent of the mountains from a hiking trip, or the fragrance of the beach. Our consumers know our candles provide those finishing touches and strengthen those special feelings. CandlePower celebrates the power of scented candles to transform spaces and transport our consumers.
The Scent Test Bar allows shoppers to uncover a fragrance based on personality type and to test their knowledge of Yankee Candle scents. With the holiday season approaching, shoppers can select a gift from the Museum Store, which features a wall of more than 100 iconic candles from the three brands. A gifting station is available to wrap and ship gifts.
There were five Yankee Candle experiences, and we started with the first — a tiny wooden bridge that we ceremoniously crossed over into Yankee Candle Land.
Beyond the aromatherapy CandlePower will bring you, here’s an important insider’s tip about the pop-up. If you require privacy, you’ll want to enter this next experience, the Zen Chamber, which is a dark room of Chesapeake Bay tranquility candles and a movie theater screen where you can choose your zen — writing in the sand, swirling your hand in a (virtual) aquarium.
Next, there was what I dub the Home Shopping Network Beach Getaway experience — a virtual pool surrounded by an actual wooden deck and chaise lounges. We smelled the Sun and Sand candle, and all agreed it smells exactly like sunscreen.
The most lifestyle Instagram-friendly experience greeted us next. Giant pink plastic roses with dark green carpet and a mirrored ceiling were worth quick snaps. We smelled the Sun-Drenched Apricot Rose.
The next room, the Sideways Room, was by far the pièce de résistance of CandlePower. And the Experience Attendant manning this room was its king. The room looks like a Restoration Hardware turned sideways — chandelier on the wall instead of the ceiling, etc. The attendant walks you through a series of photos faux-meditating, standing in various places in the room, hanging onto the chandelier, and jauntily kicking one heel up.
I highly recommended to both stressed-out New Yorkers and tourists. I will likely return a few more times throughout the holiday season — once for the Balsam and Cedar scent.
