At first when I heard that my book club was going to read Spontaneous Happiness by Dr. Andrew Weill, I was a little worried. Over the past 10 years I have gone through alot of emotional upheaval in my life losing the ones I love and I have read books that never seem to help.
When I learned that this books was about emotional well-being it got me more curious and wanted to read more and learn. This book looks at the physica and mental wellneess in a way of using classic meditation techniques (which did not work for me in the past), with nutrition and life style changes geared at preventiing behavior which makes dealing with life difficult for people.
Dr. Andrew Weill defines depression as having a lack of self-esteem, insomnia, lack of energy, decreased concentration and hopelessness. The author predicts that depression will increase in the coming years without adequate coping strategies and intervention. This is absolutely true as I have learned this lesson. Relaxing techniques like sitting, meditation and activities; such as, cooking help to curb mental restlessness. All of these things I did not think of before.
I really enjoyed the book and gained alot of insight from its pages.
