The creme de la creme of my fall/winter wardrobe selection is cashmere. And there are three things I tend to look for; good quality, timeless design, and a price that won’t break the bank. For the last few years, three brands have been my ‘go-to’ for the classic crew neck cashmere: Everlane, Pure Collection, and Uniqlo. So after getting numerous recommendations to try out Gobi Cashmere, whose cashmere is priced perfectly. I decided to go for it.
My style leans pretty casual these days; working from home and being confined due to COVID is totally different from what I was wearing just a few short years ago. I’d say that it’s likely little a surprise that my daily uniform often consists of a simple sweater in a neutral hue, paired with some skinny jeans in white or faded black.
To play it safe, I decided to stick to my usual size small. I figured that this would be a nice relaxed fit on me – something I find pairs well and balances nicely when tucked into skinny jeans, or any silhouette that is more fitted on the lower half.
What really blew me away, however, was not the fit, but the quality of the Gobi cashmere sweater. I’d heard it was soft, but I didn’t think it would be that soft. I’d say it sits up there as being one of, if not the softest cashmere sweater I own.
This is the kind of knit sweater that won’t scratch or itch, and feels ultra-luxurious against your skin.
At this point, I’ve worn it a bit more than a handful of times, and am yet to notice any rubbing or pilling – even when worn with a cross-body – so I’m pleased with how it’s fared so far. It is worth noting that this is a normal part of the process of wearing natural wool fibers, and a cashmere comb that came with the sweater will remove any pilled bits of fabric quite quickly.
Overall, I really like the sweater. The feel of the cashmere is uber soft, and the quality seems on par with other more pricier sweaters in my closet. The fabric is on the thinner end of the spectrum, however, it can be easily layered if you needed to add some extra warmth.
Gobi Cashmere operates under immense scrutiny of cashmere harvesting, as the hand combing method preserves their tradition and complies with ethical measurements of raw material sourcing. Gobi Cashmere respects “Fair Trade” practices by removing any unnecessary intermediaries in the production process. This is done to preserve a fair price for the herders’ cashmere. Every purchase made by our beloved readers will not only be valued by the high quality of the product but also in sustaining the Mongolian herding community directly. Their shared vision of the conscious environment and sustainable value chain is the foundation for the finest cashmere in the world.
Cashmere is the only fiber that has a very narrow diameter which makes it extremely soft to the touch. According to the Wool Products Labeling enacted by the US Congress in 1939, cashmere has to be 19 microns in diameter or less. Some parts of Mongolia even produce cashmere with a diameter between 13-14 microns. It is the finest, the so-called ‘King-Fiber’ which stands out as top quality above the others.
Gobi’s extensive line of products and collections is made with directly sourced, high-quality raw materials and processed using advanced technologies combined with years of craftsmanship. Gobi company is appropriately considered to be one of the largest vertically integrated cashmere factories in the world. Annually, their production lines deliver over 1.1 million meters of woven material, a variety of 162,000 tailored sewn products, as well as 1.5 million knitted products. Gobi Cashmere supplies domestically and globally, providing the most exquisite and luxurious experience in cashmere.
Gobi Cashmere has been making wool and cashmere since 1981, the pride of Mongolians by making clothes that express quality and elegance. The Gobi company, which has been owned by the government for 30 years, followed in the footsteps of a joint-stock public company in July 2007. They are the only factory in Mongolia that employs more than 2,000 local skilled workers and processes all stages of cashmere manufacturing from the preparation of raw cashmere to the production of the finished product.
Gobi is the premium cashmere brand that is an affordable luxury for everyone. They offer complete wardrobe solutions for all occasions. It stands for enduring style and confidence; they design for those who want to look effortlessly polished and feel their best.
Having such high expectations, I almost expected the brand to fall short, but I’ve been so thrilled with my first Gobi cashmere addition. It’s proven to be a bit of a hidden gem, and I’m so impressed with the value given the quality. If their classic crew neck is any indicator of the quality across the board, then you’re in for a treat.
