My Favorite Cozy Pajamas-The Cat’s Pajamas

With much of our days now being at home, how tempted are you to stay in pajamas all day? Speaking for myself… VERY! I give myself about an hour in the mornings, before getting dressed for productivity reasons.

The first hour or so of my mornings consist of me sitting outside drinking a cup of tea before doing anything else. I have always loved pajamas, growing up I remember I would always get a new pair for my birthday or the holidays. I remember days of going to Macy’s and going to look at all the new sleepwear and imaging what they would all feel like.

Growing up I never lost that love of pajamas and while at home, searching for new brands that had bright and vivid pajamas to keep my spirits up while working from home. I came across the Cat’s Pajamas.

The company has a very unique story, and I got founder Dan Weinbach to talk about it and what the future holds.

About 5 years ago my wife, Julie, and I purchased the company. We thought the brand had potential and liked the space. We upgraded the product by searching out new fabrics. We modernized the brand with new logos and packaging. We added lifestyle photography to help women envision wearing our pajamas. JoAnne joined us from Bedhead Pajamas and brought the newly updated offering to hundreds of boutiques and spas around the country. Since then, we’ve been adding new styles and fabrics (and more stores). Most importantly, however, I think our customers love us for the customer service we offer. They are talking to real people and we go out of our way to make their purchasing process as fun and effortless as possible.

Our vision for the brand is to offer fun, sophisticated prints in beautiful, high-quality fabrics and to be able to sell them at a reasonable price. We want women to think about that moment when they get to change out of their work clothes and get into their PJs … and to wonder which of their Cat’s PJs they are going to wear that night. [I know for the moment, maybe it’s change out of your sleeping PJs and get into your work PJs]. We want them to feel good about themselves in our PJs, feel comfortable around the house and in front of their kids/ kids friends, etc. And feel like they are wearing a quality product that they can feel proud to own. Our pajamas are made in Los Angeles and Peru and the working conditions are great in both locations. For example, during the Covid downturn, our local sewer told us she was worried about not having enough work. So we immediately got on the phone with suppliers to find fabrics that she could use to make masks and pajamas — it didn’t matter to us that we didn’t need the product right then, we knew we had to act to keep her business afloat.

As for future expansion, we have been adding additional styles every year. We also plan to launch a lounge collection soon (although it was delayed this season because of Covid). We also recently purchased a candle line and we plan to expand that offering into a broader home fragrance company where we can offer the same at home comforts in fragrance (think candles, diffusers, bath salts, lotions, soaps, etc). We are super excited to keep growing the company, delighting our customers and seeing what comes next (hopefully better days for everyone).

We are only leaving the house to go for groceries. The other day I had to run to the drug store and put on my shoes and jumped into the car still in my pajamas. When I got there I got so many comments about where I had gotten that wonderful outfit, little did they know it was my Cat’s Plajamas.
