When I travel I am always on the lookout for handbags, laptops carriers, and accessories that are functional but also beautiful. Welden beautifully encompasses this philosophy with their collection of bags and totes. Each piece carries its own story, beginning with an artisan that designed it and ending with you.
From saddlebags to satchels, the chic and simple woven designs afford a classic look and transition seamlessly from day to night. Uncompromising with quality, WELDEN’s bags are made with stunning Italian leather & suede, and their array of neutral, romantic colors make the pieces functional for all seasons.
When I travel I sometimes have a bag that is too big and bulky or too small to hold anything. Welden’s Sonder Tote is perfect. Inspired by the classic beach tote, the new Sonder adds sophistication and style to any daytime excursion. The signature hexagon weave is updated with four strips of leather adding another element to this already beautiful tote. At night, the beautifully-made piece compliments any stylish outfit for drinks and dinner on the town.
One of the other things that I worry about is my laptop. I had a sleeve before but it did not find it sturdy. Then I found the Welden Improviser Slim Sleeve. Offering stylishly functional storage for your laptop and a few daily essentials, the Improvisor Slim Sleeve 13″ is uniquely hand-crafted in a signature hexagon design using three strips of nylon that come together to create a satisfyingly singular shape.
I never could find a bag to take my makeup that does not end up getting damaged during travel. The Improviser Accessory Case is perfect. Offering stylishly functional storage for your charging cords, earbuds, battery, iPhone, and other essentials, the Improvisor Accessory Case is uniquely hand-crafted in a signature hexagon design using three strips of nylon that come together to create a satisfyingly singular shape. I also put it in my car when I am out.
I got the opportunity to talk to founder and find out the story behind Welden bags. You can tell how much of herself is put into the design of each bag. She loves her job and making these beautiful bags for customers. She talks about it below.
I’ve been in handbags for almost 20 years working for Calvin Klein, Coach, Banana Republic and, Kate Spade. I decided to leave corporate after my first son was born. My husband has always been supportive of my passion and pushed me to go out on my own. So, with a leap of faith… I started the journey 7 years ago.
I created Welden from a different angle, I’m not a designer by trade. My background has been in development, material sourcing, technical understanding and, love for manufacturing. I noticed so many brands were being lost to automation and what I love most, the craft of creating by hand, was fading.
I played with several ideas but kept coming back to the hexagon. It’s understandable, modern, and because it’s a three-part weave, it never can be replicated by a machine.
The name Welden is a combination of “well done” and my youngest son “Alden”
We also wanted to create a meaning behind each of our designs/colors. Everything connected.
I’ve always had a love for travel. To experience the world, different cultures, foods.. you name it. Therefore, many of our designs are inspired by my trips. Each of our bags is named after a travel word. We want the customer to be living life when they are wearing our bags. Where are you “jaunting” off too? Where are you “exploring” next.
The Sonder Tote is one of my favorites. It’s a playoff the hexagon.
son·der (noun): the realization that each passer-by is living a life as complex as your own.
