Color may be what catches your eye in a new garment, but quality fabric and cut are just as important when buying a new addition to your wardrobe. Jean Marie Clarke, founder of a local clothing brand Pax Philomena, clothes are more than something to wear but have a generous spirit.
Pax Philomena creates brightly colored clothing for women, men, and children in quality cotton and silk with bold patterns that are perfect for lounging by the pool, a walk during the day, or relaxing at home. These items in silk from Italy and sewn in India and their cotton line features hand-printed patterns with natural fibers that breathe.
Clarkes’ 30-year career in designing and creating textiles in Italy and India gave her the background and knowledge to start her own brand of clothing with an eye for quality, comfortable fabrics, and colors.
Clarke wanted to give back to the community and decided to give part of the Pax Philomenas revenue to Missionaries of Charity of Mother Teresa’s who continue to serve others and spread peace in America, India, and throughout the world.
Clarke stated she also wanted to create Pax Philomena to honor her mother who died in March 2020, whose name was Philomena. The other part of the brand name, Pax, means peace in Latin; and Philomena comes from the tomb of Saint Philomena which was discovered in the catacombs of Rome in the 19th century on the tomb Pax Tecum Filumena was written, which means daughter of light, and peace be with you.
This whole brand is a combination of a passion of textiles, a passion for Clarke’s mom, and her passion for giving back to people.
In the future. the company will look to expand to create more types of clothing, such as pajamas, a men’s line and a baby line and will hopefully venture into accessories such as swimwear and bags.
This is a wonderful collection and has so many pieces that you will love.
