A great way to brighten the holiday is candles. I found that they are so many out there that I love, and what I love doing is making my own. Using old glass jars and making it what I want.
Here is the simples steps to create your own.
1. Wash and dry the glass container that you will be using, make sure to remove all labels and any residue that might remain.
2. Creat a wick. Cut a length of hemp string (you can get this at the craft store) long enough to stretch from the bottom of the jar to the mouth. Add about three inches for slack. Tie a knot in the bottom of the string.
3. Cut the wax up into the smallest pieces you can using a cutting board and chef’s knife. You can get wax from the craft store. Cut enough wax to fill the jar to the top.
4. Place the wax pieces in a microwavable container. Add about a teaspoon of food coloring and mix with you fingers. You can add more later.
5. Melt the wax pieces. Microwave the wax on high for a minute at a time until the wax pieces are reduced to a liquid. Remove the container from the microwave.
6. Add scented oil to it if you desire. Add oil a drop or two at a time until it smells as strong as you want it.
7. Dip the wick into the melted wax to let it soak and get saturated. Remove the wick and let the wax harden on it, then place the wick in the jar so that the knotted end touches the bottom and the top hangs over the side.
8. Pour the wax slowly into the jar. Keep the position of the wick as you pour to make sure it doesn’t slip down into the wax.
9. Let the wax harden. As the middle portion hardens the wick will be held in place.
10. Now you have your own candle jars, you can put ribbon around the top to finish the look.
