During the New York Toy Fair, I got the opportunity to see the new Skyrocket pet toys called the Pomsies.
The fuzzy, wearable pet toys boast ball-shaped bodies, large colorful sets of eyes and a long tail that can curl and grip objects such as wrists, backpacks, and pieces of clothing. The toys can make up to 50 different sounds and reactions, including the ability to indicate when they are sleepy or hungry. For play with others, the toys also boast a freeze dance mode.
Pomsies will be able to tell when they are happy, sleepy, or hungry with up to 50 different reactions, including eyes that light up in different colors and adorable sounds. There are six characters in the first series.
To wake the Pomsie, just pull out the orange tag. It will great you with a cute “Hello.” Pomsies come in “Pet Mode” out of the box and with an AAA battery pre-installed. Watch the video at the end of the report to hear Pomsies cute voice and purring. Pomsies say little phrases in their cute voice such as “hello” and “you are my favorite”. You can make Pomsies fart and burp, a must reaction for electronic pets.
The toy has multiple touch sensors and its eyes light up in different colors. The tail can be bent to wrap the Pomsie around my arm. I also manage to make it sit in front of my iMac. The wire inside the tail can also be bent to a loop, making it possible to attach the Pomsie to a backpack or hang at a bed.
The sensors are located at the back of the head, mouth and the nose is a button. Pushing the nose (hold 1 second) switches from Pet Mode to Dance Mode. In dance mode (Purple Eyes), a whistle sound marks the start of music. You need to shake the Pomsie to the beat. The faster you shake the faster the music. When another whistle sounds off, you need to freeze.
The colors of the eyes have meaning. When the eyes of Pomsies light up teal then they are happy. Yellow means hungry, and it needs feeding. Pushing multiple times on the mouth area takes care of that. Green eyes mean Pomsies have a hiccup. Shaking the Pomsie makes the hiccup go away.
In case Pomsies have blue eyes, they are sick. In case they sneeze, tap the nose. When they cough, cover its mouth and if they are shivering hug and touch their back. Pink eyes mean that Pomsies are in a silly mood. Tickling triggers more silly reactions from the Pomsie.
Rainbow eyes mean that the Pomsies are super happy. If can pet them to 5 rainbow eye moments, the Pomsies will play a special happy song. Shaking the Pomsie during the song makes the beat go faster.
The Pomsies come bundle with a little plastic brush to keep their fur in order. To change the battery, there is a slit under the tail to get to the plastic shell of the Pomsie. Remove the screw with a Philips screwdriver and replace the single AAA battery with a new one.
My first impression of the Pomsies is very positive. The sound effects are lough out cute. They look like little adorable kittens, especially when they purr. The Fingerlings are by far not as cute but have conquered the hearts of kids last Holiday season. The Holiday season 2018 is likely owned by the cute Pomsies.
Pomsies will be available exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com starting on July 1, and on Target, Amazon and other retailers in August.
