Mederma® Quick Dry Oil
I have always had sensitive skin that scars easily. This Summer when I got a mosquito bite and it itched so much no matter what I put on it, of course, I scratched it and it left a scar. I reached for my Mederma Quick Dry Oil. I’ve been testing it for the past few weeks on my arms and legs and added my hands to the roster. Granted the skin on my hands are more weathered and tough than the rest of my body, but it was pretty miraculous how quick I improved.
I was the prime candidate to try the new Mederma Quick Dry Oil. The bottle alone says skin care for: Scars, Stretch Marks, Uneven Skin Tone and Dry Skin. With check marks in all of those boxes, the immediate reaction I had was how light and quick drying the oil is and also how amazing and smooth my skin felt. It instantly makes you feel like you have baby skin.
I’m usually more into oils in the winter but this one is great year round, and is not greasy or heavy like other oils or moisturizers. In fact, I like it as a first layer after the shower and then will put a moisturizer over it if I need more hydration. Looking at the ingredient list, it has a really strong formula comprised of mostly natural ingredients. It features sunflower and coconut oil for fast absorption and to seal in moisture, rose hip oil which is rich in Vitamin C for brighter skin, sweet almond oil to help moisturize, and chamomile and ginger extract to help reduce redness and uneven skin tone. It’s also rich in Vitamins A, E and Omega 3 and the only oil that combines Cepalin® with natural botanicals in a fast-absorbing formula free of parabens, fragrance, dye and mineral oil, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
Overall my skin is definitely more even and smoother and my scars are lightening . The discoloration in my knees is practically all gone and is only really noticeable in one of my ankles now. Usually I use body makeup or self-tanner during the winter to cover all the discoloration but it’s really nice to be proactive in trying to improve and nourish my legs. Mederma Quick Dry Oil had really high reviews on Amazon so I was optimistic but in no way anticipated it being this exceptional – I try a lot of products, and for one this affordable and effective it deserves all its gold stars.
Mederma Quick Dry Oil is available in three sizes, 3.4oz ($13.49), 5.1oz ($19.49), and 6.8oz ($20.98) on Amazon.com.
Mederma PM Intensive Overnight Cream
In many ways, the formula for Mederma PM is the most sophisticated and impressive the brand has ever offered. Before we discuss why, you need to know that this product is sold in a 1.7-ounce jar as well as a 1-ounce tube. Because the jar packaging exposes delicate ingredients to degrading light and air it is NOT recommended. However, the tube packaging IS recommended and is the one to pick if you happen upon both in store or online.
The active ingredient in Mederma PM is dimethicone, a silicone that is FDA-approved in the United States as a skin protectant due to its healing abilities. Silicone in skin care alone isn’t enough to improve scars, so it’s good that the dimethicone is joined by Mederma’s famed onion extract along with some intriguing skin-healing ingredients such as copper tripeptide-1 and several amino acids with emerging research on their ability to assist wound healing (though we’re skeptical Mederma is using these ingredients in meaningful amounts).
Mederma PM has a light cream texture that is suitable for all skin types. Specialty products like this work best on newer scars (those less than two years old) rather than older scars that have, for all intents and purposes, “set”. It missed our top rating because of the amount of alcohol (the kind listed as just “alcohol”) it contains. Although the amount is unlikely to cause irritation, it’s disappointing to see it show up before the most beneficial ingredients, at least those beyond the active ingredient dimethicone.
Mederma for Kids
Mederma for Kids contains the same ingredients as the adult version of Mederma, but it goes on purple and turns clear as it rubs in. It is grape-scented, so kids will be more likely to use it consistently as scar therapy.
This product works really well for kids and it is easy to put on and you see results in a few weeks.
