WHO/WHAT: Barnes & Noble is excited to announce a special Storytime with Janice Clark reading The Wonky Donkey. The Scottish Granny herself will read Craig Smith’s hilarious children’s book at 10:30 a.m. on November 1 at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square.
Craig Smith’s The Wonky Donkey with illustrations by Katz Cowley was first published in 2009 and tells the hilarious story of a three legged donkey. The book saw a recent spike in popularity thanks to a viral home video of Janice Clark laughing as she reads the story to her grandson Archer. Viewers found the Scottish Granny’s reading of the book so funny that The Wonky Donkey has been brought back into print here in the US, and is now available at Barnes & Noble stores and at BN.com.

The country’s hottest book event and YouTube Sensation, Janice Clark,”The Scottish Granny” U.S. Reading Of ‘The Wonky Donkey’ was held yesterday at Barnes & Noble Union Square. It was a wonderful appearance for hundreds of kids, parents and teachers that came from all over the tri state area and beyond. After the hilarious reading, the kids had the opportunity to ask questions to Ms.Clark about the donkey and the author. Ms. Clark answered the children’s questions giving her point of view on the donkey thoughts, why he smelled and on and on. The children delighted in her answers. After Ms Clark finished the Q&A portion, Barnes and Noble invited all the classes to take pictures with their teachers and Ms. Clark.
“The Wonky Donkey” has sold more than 100,000 copies in the United States this fall, much of that in the past week. According to NPD BookScan, “Wonky Donkey” topped all releases with more than 90,000 copies sold last week, beating out Bob Woodward’s “Fear” and Rachel Hollis’ “Girl, Wash Your Face,” among others. This book is selling fast now, it just sells and sells. When people see it, they say, ‘”Oh, I have to get that for my grandchildren.” Scholastic, the publisher, announced last week that it had ordered another 600,000 copies in anticipation of further success and the upcoming holidays as it is the perfect gift.
“The Wonky Donkey,” featuring illustrations by Katz Cowley, had already sold hundreds of thousands of copies in New Zealand and Australia, where Clark, a native of Scotland, now lives.
