I entered a contest hosted by Nichol Perez and won four tickets to the culinary kids food festival at the New York Botanical Gardens. The festival ran from February 17-23. The New York Botanical Garden is located at Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY 10458. It turned out to be a wonderful day to enjoy this festival as the weather in New York had finally warmed up.
I was so happy to attend this event and see all of the wonderful stations that were available for the kids to learn about food, plants and other fun activities. They was also a 1pm food demonstration.
They were five distinctive stations for kids to learn about different things.
1. The Tip-Top Pickle Shop
At the Tip-Top Pickle Shop we learned about the science and cooking behind food preservation. Experimented in chemistry kitchen to test acids and bases, and take home a recipe to make your own pickles at home.
2. Cheesemonger’s Shop
Learn about the fascinating process of cheese making and sample fresh cheeses you help to make. Learn about the animals behind the scenes and the plants they like to eat, and take an up-close look at the smallest cheesemakers of all—bacteria!
2.The Bakery
Learn the art of bread-making from seed to loaf, and grind your own sample of flour to take home and use in your own recipes. We got to see all different types of breads and learn about the process.
4. Spice Adventures
Personally, this was the favorite one We got to learn about spices that are harvested around the world from plant parts for their powerful flavors, aromas, and colors.
5. Make A Seed Envelope
The kids got to make their own seed envelope. The process included folding your own fun seed packet to take home delicious basil seeds, and learn how to grow basil indoors as a tasty sprout, or outdoors in your summer garden.

Oh cool. I love food-related events like this. I once won tickets to a Chocolate Show in NYC, and we drove 4 hours to it…it was so much fun. I took my brother and nephew. Your festival had a lot of nice, interesting stations to explore. That’s something I would have liked to take my nephew to.
