In the past year, I have been using backpacks more and looking for the right one to carry my camera and all of my materials. I have quite a collection of them in all shapes and sizes. Most are functional and even look good. I was very interested when I found out the Moshi, known for their fashionable accessories, gave me a chance to test out the new Arcus backpack. I was impressed that while it was stylish, it could also fit my laptop, tablet, phone, paperwork, jacket and camera with two lenses.
The pack comes configured as a standard backpack design, but if you add the optional photo insert, then you get a zipper on one side that opens into a camera friendly compartment. It can hold a small DSLR, or my Cannon EOS. If you only use the camera gear, then you can fit an additional lens and flash. The nice thing about the side pocket is that you can get to it easily if have the pack over one shoulder. This makes it simple to grab your camera without putting the pack down.
The “main” backpack zipper opens into a sort of side ways. Within that opening there is a padded laptop compartment, a padded tablet slot, a phone slot, and two smaller pockets. I used one of the pockets to hold my pens, business cards and small cables.
The top compartment of the pack is large enough to hold a jacket. There is also a crush proof zippered compartment inside the top cover. It works well for sunglasses, and other little things.. A cinchable outside pocket was pocket was perfect for a water bottle, and there are several zippered compartments around the outside that were great for random small items.
The company is proud of its choice of material, and indeed it held up well over the course of a week of heavy-duty use. It didn’t show marks or scars, and it was pretty easy to clean. The pack’s construction is also quite sturdy. I felt comfortable carrying it in various configurations.
I love the design of the bag, and it is one of the few that I’ve used that received unsolicited compliments and questions all over New York. This is my new fun bag.
