Movie: The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 2

What’s the story?

This is the forth film in the saga of Katniss Everdeen and her revolutionary war. Katniss is destined to finish the fight, defeat the enemy and bring liberation to Panem. The series of movies is based on the “Hunger Games” trilogy written by Suzanne Collins.

Part 2 of the movie picks up where the last movie left off, with Katniss and the rest of the rebel forces closing in on the government and Panem’s leader, President Snow. As with a lot of contemporary franchises, this one is stocked with a supporting cast of veterans who given balance to the large younger cast.

What parents will like:

“The Hunger Games” has triumphed because it means so many different things to so many people. It’s a story of war and peace, love and bullets, pegged to a girl who develops into a woman who fights for her family, her friends and her future. It’s aspirational and inspirational, personal and communal, familiar and strange. Katniss exists outside the traditional confines of the feminine roles. She is tough and teary, stoic and sentimental, which gives her layers that reflect her changeable inner states as well as her public and private identities as daughter, sister, lover and leader.

What kids will like:

There is a lot of action and fighting scenes. The characters are fighting for their lives at every turn and using all sorts of different weapons.

Concerns:

There is an intense sequence of violence and action in the movie. There is loss, and liberation and emotions that are high. We also have concerns with it reflecting some of what is going on in our real world and being able to distinguish between fact and fiction.

Bottom Line:

Positive Themes:

This series is one of the only that features a lone female lead. It is Katniss who leads the fight, she is the one that everyone looks to lead them to the freedom. Being a female she shows both her strong and soft side and it is the reason that so many people rally to her side and want her to succeed. (4/5)

Violence/Scare Factor:

They are a lot of violent scenes in which numerous people are killed by arrows and other weapons. Katniss is out to assassinate President Snow. There is a lot of brutality in this film. (5/5)

Sex/Romance:

A young woman kisses a young man for several seconds and he says, “It’s like kissing someone who’s drunk; it doesn’t count” (because she loves someone else). A young woman kisses a panicking young man on the lips and she says, “Stay with me” (to get focused). A man and a woman kiss on the cheek and then on the lips in a close-up as they say goodbye. (2/5)

Bad Language:

Name-calling: crazy, stupid, fickle, liar, monster, mutt, foolish, unstable, ridiculous, harridans (1/5)

Fun with Shaun the Sheep-#Fandango Family! @Fandango #ad

Shaun the Sheep is a movie about, Shaun a sheep who doesn’t follow the flock – in fact, he leads them into all sorts of scrapes and scraps, turning peace in the valley into mayhem in the meadow. Shaun and his pals run rings around their poor sheepdog Bitzer, as he tries to stop the Farmer finding out what’s going on behind his back. Every day brings a new adventure for Shaun.

The cuddly-looking Shaun surfaced for the first time in Aardman Studio’s award winning short film A Close Shave(1995), when he literally fell off a truck, and wandered into Wallace and Gromit’s home. Shaun is a clever little sheep with a penchant for wandering into adventure, and a television series of his own, making him a very familiar and beloved onscreen character. Since then he has been a favorite of my family. We were happy to see more of Shaun and this movie.

Boasting physical comedy that stop-motion seems to have to a tee, Shaun realizes that even though his life on the farm follows a routine, you won’t realize how much appreciate the simple life out in the country until you end up in a polar location aka the city. What this film brings is fun for all ages along with some subtle pop culture references for the adults to enjoy along with the simple humor for all ages. But if there is one thing we can’t undermine about this movie is it’s heart. No real words are spoken beyond the songs that play through certain scenes and yet you feel a human connection through animals.

The chemistry between the sheep and the dog that herds them is so natural and refreshing to see in a film because they aren’t enemies, but they aren’t always buddies, so what they become is something in between which I’d compare to mutual work friends that can work together if it means the best outcomes for the team and that’s worth taking in if you have little kids to see this with.

Funny and full of genuine heart and is definitely an A in my book. Shaun the Sheep is riddled with funny and quirky characters that fulfill the standards for physical humor while being created through the art of stop-motion animation. I encourage you all to see it no matter what age group, but if you have kids, it’s definitely worth the admission.

Three years after saving New York from an alien apocalypse, Marvel’s superhero all-stars once again find the weight of the world — or, at least, an airborne chunk of Eastern Europe — thrust upon their mighty shoulders in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” http://www.fandango.com/avengers:ageofultron2015_157897/movieoverview a super-sized spandex movie that’s heavy on catastrophic action but surprisingly light on its feet, and rich in the human-scale emotion that can cut even a raging Hulk down to size. Having gotten over the hump of assembling his six main characters in 2012’s “The Avengers,” returning writer-director Joss Whedon brings a looser, more inventive and stylish touch to this skillful follow-up, which finds our now S.H.I.E.L.D.-less defenders facing off against a man-made enemy more dangerous than any alien life form.

The opening sequence of the film, is an incredible piece of action filmmaking, staged as a single shot with one of the most triumphant reveals I’ve ever seen in this kind of movie. Instead, the team soon find themselves facing off against the titular Ultron. Voiced by James Spader. Tony Stark’s tech wizardry melding with an alien artifact, and he takes the form of a wisecracking robot with very little respect for authority. He also thinks destroying humanity is the best way to establish world peace.

I don’t want to give anything else about this movie. Only to say it was great to be part of one of hottest movie opening of 2015. You are going to have to go back more than once to catch all the stuff you missed the first time.
