How to Organize Your Home Office for the New Year

February 9, 2020 By denise Leave a Comment

Your home office is probably the most important place in your home, especially if you run a home-based business. It is the place where you keep your business files and communicate with your clients or manager. Even if you do not own a business, it is the place where you keep your most important documents. So, giving this place a fresh update should be at the top of your New Year’s to-do list. Thanks to Michael’s we have some organizing strategies to help you get a head start on a productive year working from home.

Your home office can become a dumping ground for all sorts of items from other parts of your home, especially around the holidays. Take time to remove all items that should be stored in another area of your home and return them to their proper place. Any old items that you no longer use can be donated or recycled.

Sort and organize through the paperwork

You must not like to start the New Year with all the paperwork of the entire year stacked on your desk. Sifting through these piles of papers is not an easy task but do it to shred and recycle as much as possible. Keep the receipts of only the major purchases and shred the rest. After getting rid of all the extra paperwork, you can start the organization’s works.

Organize papers, files, and office essentials in separate places. Consider opting for organization shelving, bins, and color coded file folders for ease of finding what is needed. A desk with built-in storage, some portable filing cabinets, a few stackable trays, and some storage boxes will be enough to make the place organized. Use labels on the boxes, cabinets, and drawers to find out things easily. Keep the items that you frequently use somewhere easily accessible. I got the perfect one at Michael’s to start.

As your primary workspace, your desk demands the most attention! Clear it off completely. File your papers away, leaving only the bare necessities on your desktop like your computer or phone. Keep office supplies, such as pens, pencils, and notebooks stored neatly in your desk drawers or nearby shelves in your home office. With your desk clear and frequently used supplies and files organized, your workspace is more conducive to being productive! Lend some floral charm to your office décor with this wall clipboard. You can display the things that you would have thrown on your desk such as: family photographs, notes, postcards and more on this pretty wall accent.

Once you have organized your home office. It will be easier to organize yourself.

It’s a fantastic time to start a new planner, just before the New Year starts. There’s something incredibly inspiring and motivating about a fresh start. It found so many great options at Michael’s that it was hard for me to select just one.

Pick a Planner

To get started, if you don’t already have your planner, you’ll need to choose your favorite layout and cover style. Not attached to a particular format? Then you have a few decisions to make! Ask yourself these questions to narrow down the options.

Think about what will work best for you! I believe a daily planner is essential for making it all happen when it needs to—each and every day.

Gather Schedules

It’s time to gather your upcoming events. Think through everything you’re juggling and get the dates in front of you. Don’t forget:

• Holidays and Birthdays
• Trips and Vacations
• Health and Fitness
• Appointments: Doctor, Dentist, Specialist, Hair, etc.
• Social Events and Church Events
• Membership Schedules: Clubs, Groups, etc.
• Nonprofit Events and Volunteer Schedules
• School Schedules (yours or your kids’) and Events
• Sports Schedules and other After-School Activities
• Work Schedule
• Spouse’s Schedule

Select Favorite Supplies

We’re talking planner stickers, washi tape, colored pens, page markers, and darling dashboards! Within each of those categories, you’ll find an array of styles, colors, materials, and more. The options are endless! Planner stickers and accessory companies are popping up left and right, which is super fun.

If you’re not the decorating type, don’t worry—you are not alone! You’ll love the simplicity of the pages, especially once you fill in your schedule and to-dos. Just select your pens (or pencils) and you’ll be set!

Review 2020 Goals

Think over the goals you set for yourself this year. Ideally, you have these written somewhere so you can pull them out and read back over them. Whether you started the year with a list of big (and small) goals or not, consider which activities, habits, relationships, etc. have been working for you—and which haven’t. Take some time for personal reflection and a midyear review. As you begin to set your goals, start by simply asking yourself these questions:

• Who do I want to be this time next year?
• How do I want to feel?
• What is essential for myself, for my people, for my heart, for my resources, and for my career?
• Are the goals I set earlier this year helping me to be the person I want to be?
• What are the goals that will get me there?

Review Priorities

In addition to setting your goals, you’ll also be reviewing your priorities. While things like family will always remain at the top of your priority list, you may find that other things have shifted. When new projects, tasks and opportunities arise, you’ll want to think about where they fall on your own personal list of priorities:

• At this point in my life, what’s most important?
•
Where do I want to be focusing my time?
• What new habits have stuck? What old habits have been harder to break?

Record Everything

Yay! It’s time to fill it all in—you have arrived at the most exciting part of the process! Get those events, birthdays, holidays, trips, and much more on to paper and see how it all lays out. Incorporate your lists, tasks, and notes as needed! Visualize your upcoming days, weeks, and months.

I love getting ready to start a new year in my new planner.  I hope that I’ve given you some helpful tips and ideas to get your new planner prepped for the new year.

Holiday Gift Guide-Home Décor-Holiday Fun With Michaels

December 11, 2019 By denise Leave a Comment

Disclosure: This is not a compensated or sponsored post. I was provided the product for review purposes only. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Here in the U.S., most people start putting up their holiday trees the day after Thanksgiving toward the end of November. I am an individual who usually does it in December and always looking for new holiday decorations.

We all know how stressful it can be to create the perfect home for the holidays. The Michaels Holiday Shop will give you ideas to make your day less stressful.

Being from New York, one of the things that I missed is Macy’s creation of the, Yes, Virginia. There is a Santa Claus. I love how the set up the table for young children to write letters to Santa.

This year I wanted to create that image here in Louisiana. I was able to purchase two mailboxes and set them up for the local kids to write letters to Santa. Children today have so many things to worry about, that I just wanted them to have time to believe in magic.

The first mailbox that I selected was the 12″ Letters To Santa Mailbox Tabletop Accent by Ashland. I loved that this mailbox had the colors that I was using on my tablescape. The kids loved seeing with my other decorations and wondering what we were going to do with it. Again the mystery of the season, it holds over 12 letters.

The other mailbox that I selected was the Assorted Mailbox Tabletop Accent by Ashland®. I loved that this mailbox stands up. This allowed the children to drop their mail in an actual mailbox. I placed it by the door and had so many surprised faces when they saw it. It is also decorated with snow-covered pine trees and festive figurines to add to your holiday décor.

I always love how younger children get excited using an advent calendar to count down to Christmas. This year I was looking for a new way to do a count down. I found the Santa Countdown Tabletop Accent by Ashland® at Michaels and could not wait to get it home. This piece was perfect for our kitchen island so that every day the numbers could be easily changed. It also worked perfectly with our seasonal accents.

Growing up for Christmas one year I got a rocking horse. It was one of my all-time favorite gifts. I wanted to bring back a piece on my childhood so I had been hoping to find a rocking horse for my décor. I was lucky enough to find the Rocking Horse Tabletop Accent by Ashland®. This piece is perfect, it was surrounded by glossy ball ornaments, snow-covered pinecones and LED  candles. Every time I look at it I think fondly of my childhood.

Whatever you are planning for your home décor, Michaels has you covered. Most importantly have fun picking out your items for your décor. Make sure to remember to make it fun and cozy.

Have you gotten any items from Michaels, tell me about them?

Wilton Teams Up with Dylan Candy Bar

October 8, 2017 By denise Leave a Comment

A few months ago, I attended an event in New York to highlight the new collaborations between Dylan’s Candy and Wilton. This is a great duo and it will bring you lots of fun stuff during the fall season and holidays.

Why did Dylan Candy partner with Wilton Brands

I’ve always loved Wilton and discovering new, interesting treat ideas. I’m drawn to the idea of combining homemade creations and candy in unexpected ways. This line is a great nod to that. We’re even taking it a step further with items that also “look” like candy, like gumball machine shaped cake toppers. That’s really what makes it double the fun. Life is supposed to be full of sweet surprises.

How was this created

It was great  being involved in every step from the initial concept to the actual creation of the product. The colors, the design, the final aesthetics—it’s all important to me. I love working with different members of the team and talking through interesting ideas. I like to listen to lots of opinions so we can create the best products possible.

My Favorite Products

It’s so hard to choose, but I absolutely love the Candy Apron Kitchen Set, the Sprinkles Tacklebox and the Cake Decorating Kits. They all feel very characteristic of our brand. We’re all about merging the worlds of art, fashion and pop culture with candy—I think these products do the trick. I also love the Sugar Sheets because you can apply our “candyspill” pattern right to a cupcake!

These products inspire creativity

There are so many ways! We hope that the collection inspires bakers and candy lovers to have a ton of fun in the kitchen. Whether it’s decorating a box of cupcakes and adding some fun wrappers or making an entire cake, the beauty is that you can also share what you’ve made and inspire someone else. You can move your creativity forward!

Check out the line at Michael’s stores here

Dylan’s Candy Bar was founded in 2001 by Dylan Lauren with a mission to awaken the creative spirit and inner child in everyone. Renowned for merging the worlds of art, fashion and pop culture with candy, Dylan’s Candy Bar is the pioneer in changing the way we see candy today. As the largest state-of-the-art sweets emporium and candy lifestyle brand, Dylan’s Candy Bar is not your average “candy store.” The modern day candy land is home to over 7,000 candies from around the world, making it the most popular destination for the ultimate sugar rush experience. For more information about Dylan’s Candy Bar, visit www.DylansCandyBar.com and follow them @DylansCandyBar.
