The development team at GilletteLabs has really pulled out all the stops and created a new premium shaving product, in the form of the Gillette Heated Razor. The latest addition to Gillette’s range of razors takes its place as Gillette’s flagship shaving razor. The Heated Razor has been developed by Gillette to provide users with an innovative heated shave experience, similar to that experience provided by a hot towel shave. The razor is bristling with technology and equipped with a unique “warming bar” developed by the engineers at Gillette to give a warm shave experience wherever you may be.

Two different temperatures setting are available to choose from depending on your skin and personal preference. With a quick push of the circular button in the middle of the handle the razor lights up, and users can choose from two different temperatures, either 43 / 50 degrees centigrade or 113 / 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the razor is powered on the heating process takes a couple of seconds to reach the required temperature allowing you to shave and benefit from a soothing warmth, that will follow every stroke you make across the contours of your face. The LED lighting strip in the handle of the razor provides a visual indication of which temperature you have selected, with the higher temperature glowing orange, and the lower temperature glowing a mellow yellow. Once you’ve chosen a temperature the next time you power up your heated razor, it will automatically heat to the level you previously selected.

To aid in keeping the warming bar in contact with your skin Gillette has included its Flexdisc Technology that swivels the cutting head and maintains an even shave. The Gillette Heated Razor comes with an interchangeable blade cartridge equipped with five blades and the exclusive warming bar, making the cartridges a little more expensive than your average blades. But this razor has been designed from the ground up to provide a premium shave using the latest shaving technology available. To help make sure you always have the correct blades available for your Heated Razor, extra blade cartridges can be ordered via the Gillette subscription service. Enabling them to be automatically delivered direct to your door every month in the quantities that you require.

The ergonomics of the razor are what you would expect from Gillette, and the slightly heavier weight of the razor, primarily due to the wealth of technology in the shell adds to its premium feel. The integrated rechargeable battery is housed in the “premium-grade” aluminum-zinc handle, and Gillette provides a wireless charging dock which uses magnets to keep your razor upright and in position when not in use. A full charge of the Heated Razor can provide up to 5 heated shaves without the need for a recharge. Once flat the razor can easily be recharged by docking it with the wireless magnetic charger, one of my favorite  aspects of the design.

As you might have already guessed to protect the razors internal technology and rechargeable battery from water damage the GilletteLabs Heated Razor is 100% waterproof. Allowing you to shave in the shower or the sink, without the worry of damaging the razor if it becomes fully submerged. When you have finished your shave simply place the heated razor on the wireless charging dock and internal magnets located in the base of the razor’s handle and within the dock itself will hold your razor in place while it charges. Due to the power requirement of the Heated Razor, you will need a spare shaver socket or adapter for the charging base.

My fiancée has been using the Heated Razor for just over a week, and the heated warmer provides a unique shave that I’ve not previously experience. It is easy to store your razor during downtime, as well as making sure it’s always fully charged ready for action when required. The Gillette Heated Razor is definitely a premium shaving product and pushes shaving innovation to a new level rather than just adding more and more blades.
