UH-OH HIPPO
The Uh-Oh Hippo game is a 2-4 player memory game for kids ages 4+. Players feed Hugo, a cute plastic hippo, some pretty silly things. There are 18 munchies including a dog bone, a trumpet, sunglasses, a toaster, and even underpants. The hippo’s mouth features eight slots for players to fill with eight of the plastic munchy play pieces. Players study the pieces to try to remember exactly what they fed him. Then close the hippo’s mouth, and he’ll swallow one of the pieces. When he opens his mouth again, players take turns guessing which munchy is missing. Shout it out, and press Gary, the bird on Hugo’s tail to see what pops out. If a player is correct, he or she keeps the munchy. The first player to get three munchies wins the game.
The hippo and munchies are pretty silly, which kids will enjoy. The game offers a fun way for preschoolers to work on memorization and visual recognition, as well as social skills and turn taking. Gameplay is really easy to pick up, and there are a few variations to make it easier or more challenging.
How to play
- Players select eight munches and place one in each slot of Hugo’s mouth
- Any remaining munchies should be placed on Hugo’s green grass
- Players memorize what munchies are in Hugo’s mouth before it closes
- When he opens it again players need to guess what munchie has been eaten
- Press Gary and see which munchie pops out – who guessed correctly?
- The first player to guess correctly three times is the winner
Artie 3000
This little robot is called Artie 3000, which sounds like a bad 1980s robot movie. Created by Educational Insights, it’s a programmable robot that encourages kids to code through art.
While there are many coding toys for kids that encourage problem-solving and empower kids as the creators of their own video game worlds, this new coding toy is centered around art and design. The educational coding robot was created to be approachable, as kids can create simple or complex drawings based on their desired outputs.
Rather than physically putting pen to paper themselves, kids are able to drag and drop code into a digital device and then watch Artie 3000 execute their specified commands. Artie 3000 is compatible with a range of devices, including computers, laptops, tablets, and various mobile devices and requires no Internet connection for play.
Finally, Artie 3000 makes your kid curious about coding, with emphasis on STEM and STEAM learning.
